A Life for Plastics Recycling

Werner Herbold moves into active retirement

After 40-plus years of dedicated service, Werner Herbold, Managing Director, has entered a planned retirement. Mr. Herbold served as managing director and co-owner of Herbold Meckesheim, a recycling company that specializes in equipment and systems for the plastics industry. Herbold Meckesheim was founded in 1884. Throughout his career, Mr. Herbold has helped advance plastics recycling capabilities by developing equipment for key process steps such as washing, separating, drying, shredding, and pulverizing. In addition, he actively participated in trade associations including VDMA (German Mechanical and Plant Engineering Trade Association), the Plastics and Rubber Machinery Trade Association, and served on the board of the VDMA Trade Association Waste Treatment and Recycling Technology. In 2022, Herbold Meckesheim was acquired by Hillenbrand, a U.S.-based global industrial company. Following the acquisition, Herbold Meckesheim joined Coperion, an Operation Company within the Advanced Process Solutions segment, and together, they offer complete recycling solutions for the plastics industry. Coperion’s Plastic Recycling Business is now led by Massimo Serapioni, General Manager. As Mr. Herbold embarks on retirement, his colleagues sincerely thank him for his contributions to the organization and the industry.
